توضیحات انگلیسی کتاب Lord of the Flies  :

At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate; this far from civilization the boys can do anything they want. Anything. They attempt to forge their own society, failing, however, in the face of terror, sin and evil. And as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far from reality as the hope of being rescued. Labeled a parable, an allegory, a myth, a morality tale, a parody, a political treatise, even a vision of the apocalypse, Lord of the Flies is perhaps our most memorable novel about “the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart.”

بخش ها و جملاتی کوتاه از کتاب Lord of the Flies  :

“Once more, amid the breeze, the shouting, the slanting sunlight on the high mountain, was shed that glamour, that strange invisible light of friendship, adventure and content.”

“I’m frightened. Of us.”

“The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away. Once there was this and that; and now-and the ship had gone.”

“The moral is that the shape of a society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectable.”

“The thing is—fear can’t hold you any more than a dream…”

“I think women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men, they are far superior and always have been.”

 Lord of the Flies کتاب

“They agreed passionately out of the depths of their tormented lives.”

“Which is better — to be a pack of painted Indians like you are, or to be sensible like Ralph is?

Which is better — to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?

Which is better, law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up?”

“Life’s scientific, but we don’t know, do we? Not certainly, I mean.”

“Daylight might have answered yes; but darkness and the horrors of death said no.”

“As long as there’s light we’re brave enough”

“The sun in the west was a drop of burning gold that slid nearer and nearer the sill of the world. All at once they were aware of the evening as the end of light and warmth.”

“We musn’t let anything happen to Piggy, must we?”

-Lord of the Flies epub

“There is nothing in it of course. Just a feeling. But you can feel as if you’re not hunting, but – being hunted, as if something’s behind you all the time in the jungle.”

“Here at last was the imagined but never fully realized place leaping into real life.”

“Grownups know things,” said Piggy. “They ain’t afraid of the dark. They’d meet and have tea and discuss. Then things ’ud be all right—”

“The flames, as though they were a kind of wild life, crept as a jaguar creeps on its belly toward a line of birch-like saplings that fledged an outcrop of the pink rock.”

“We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages.”

“Piggy once more was the centre of social derision so that everyone felt cheerful and normal.”

“The air was heavy with unspoken knowledge. Sam twisted and the obscene word shot out of him. “–dance?”
Memory of the dance that none of them had attended shook all four boys convulsively.”

“The sun in the west was a drop of burning gold that slid nearer and nearer the sill of the world.”

 Lord of the Flies کتاب

“The air was heavy with unspoken knowledge.”

“So the last part, the bit we can all talk about, is kind of deciding on the fear.

We’ve got to talk about this fear and decide there’s nothing in it.”

“We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages. We’re English; and the English are the best at everything. So we’ve got to do the right things”

 Lord of the Flies کتاب

“His mind was crowded with memories; memories of the knowledge that had come to them when they closed in on the struggling pig, knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life like a long satisfying drink.”

“I got this to say. you are acting like a crowd of kids.”

“They understood only too well the liberation into savagery that the concealing paint brought.”

“The three boys stood in the darkness, striving unsuccessfully to convey the majesty of adult life”

بخش هایی بلند از متن کتاب Lord of the Flies :

“He knelt among the shadows and felt his isolation bitterly. They were savages it was true; but they were human and the ambushing fears of the deep night were coming on.

Ralph moaned faintly. Tired though he was, he could not relax and fall into a well of sleep for fear of the tribe. Lying there in the darkness, he knew he was an outcast.

“‘Cos I had some sense.”

 Lord of the Flies کتاب

“Maybe, he said hesitantly, maybe there is a beast.
The assembly cried out savagely and Ralph stood up in amazement. You, Simon? You believe in this?
I don’t know, said Simon. His heartbeats were choking him.
[…]
Ralph shouted. Hear him! He’s got the conch!
What I mean is . . . maybe it’s only us.
Nuts! That was from Piggy, shocked out of decorum.”

“This toy of voting was almost as pleasing as the conch. Jack started to protest but the clamor changed from the general wish for a chief to an election by acclaim of Ralph himself. None of the boys could have found good reason for this; what intelligence had been shown was traceable to Piggy while the most obvious leader was Jack. But there was a stillness about Ralph as he sat that marked him out: there was his size, and attractive appearance; and most obscurely, yet most powerfully, there was the conch. The being that had blown that, had sat waiting for them on the platform with the delicate thing balanced on his knees, was set apart.”

“He became absorbed beyond mere happiness as he felt himself exercising control over living things. He talked to them, urging them, ordering them. Driven back by the tide, his footprints became bays in which they were trapped and gave him the illusion of mastery.”
